1. Know what your vocal range is.

You’ve probably heard someone singing that seemed to be straining and sound awful simply because they were singing out of their range. Know what your range is before you attempt a song. This way you can avoid embarrassment and wear on your vocal chords.

2. Pump yourself up before a performance.

If you want to sing with a rockstar voice you have to energize yourself before you perform. Go into the bathroom and pep talk yourself for a couple minutes before you’re ready to go out there and throw down.

3. Don’t smoke.

Smoking can’t do anything beneficial for your voice. Your lungs hold all of the precious air for your voice and when you smoke, you’re ruining your holding tank. If you can, try to stop smoking.

4. Keep your voice low before performances.

It’s easy to get caught up in conversations before a performance and find yourself almost hoarse because you’ve been talking so loud. Close one ear before you talk to someone in a noisy room to realize how loud you actually need to speak without straining.
